What it looks at

01

Your primary category

The single most powerful setting on your profile, and the one we most often find wrong. We compare yours against the businesses ranking for the same search.

02

Who ranks above you

Not a magic number. The businesses actually sitting above you in your own category and town, and how many reviews it would take to match them.

03

Where your website link goes

Whether it goes to your own site, or to a Facebook page or directory you do not control. More common than you would think.

04

Services, photos and hours

The unglamorous fields that make a profile look like a trading business rather than an abandoned one. Including which services have no description.

Everything this tool checks is explained in full on our blog, including how to fix each one yourself. The tool just tells you which ones are yours. Read the guide.

Questions

Is this really free?

Yes, and there is no signup. You type your business name and town, and the result appears on screen. We do not ask for an email or a phone number to show it to you.

Will this change anything on my Google profile?

No. The audit only reads information that is already public on Google Maps. It has no access to your account and cannot edit your listing.

How current is the data?

Live. We read Google Maps at the moment you run the audit rather than a cached database, so the review counts match what a customer sees right now.

Why does the website check matter so much?

Because of where the customer ends up. In our audit of 4,366 South African listings, 54% had no website linked at all, and a further 2.5% linked to a Facebook page or a directory rather than a site the business owns. If there is nothing of yours to click, Google sends that customer to a map of your competitors.

It found the wrong business

Try the name exactly as it appears on your Google listing, including any suffix like Pty Ltd. If several businesses share a name, the correct town usually settles it.
